Lead Insight
The MINING.COM TOP 50 lost $226 billion in October, a 10% fall following September's $264 billion loss, leaving it $712 billion or 26% below its $2.75 trillion record from the end of February. Hotter US inflation data hardened bets on another Fed rate hike, oil rose on the Middle East conflict and a late-month tech rout forced funds to sell metals. Gold fell 6.6% to $3,884, its worst October since 2008, and the eleven copper producers lost $69 billion, the biggest sector fall in dollars, even though copper barely moved.

LGHT -51.6%: Lighthouse Gold
Lighthouse said it cannot confirm that historical Sardine Hill drill holes cited in its June and October releases lie within its Mariwa-Sardine Hill property in Guyana. Sigma Lithium fell on the day it announced a US$100 million five-year convertible bond, convertible into ASX-listed CDIs at a 25% premium, to repay its Synergy Capital secured debt. A year-long reassessment of 17 strategic minerals across more than 1,800 mines has lifted China's retained resources of 13 of them, according to Ministry of Natural Resources data reported by Xinhua. Rhenium more than doubled, while gold rose by the equivalent of 50 large deposits and nickel by 30. The gains come from associated, low-grade and hard-to-mine material rather than new discoveries.

Benchmark Mineral Intelligence reported 2.15 million EVs sold globally in September, up 17% month-on-month but down 2% year-on-year, with Europe and the UK posting a record of nearly 600,000. North America fell 44% year-on-year against a 2025 base inflated by the tax-credit rush, and China fell 18%. Benchmark's Adam Webb says lithium has been in deficit this year, driven by battery storage rather than EVs.
