Tether Lifts Metalla Royalty & Streaming Stake to 14.13%
Tether bought 149,116 Metalla shares on 11 August for US$1.36 million at an average US$9.14, taking it from 13.97% to 14.13% of a 93.5 million share register. The El Salvador-based investment firm filed the early warning report because purchases since its 8 June filing exceeded 2%. Shares are held for investment, but the filing flags possible engagement with the board on capitalisation, ownership structure and operations.
|
Our Take
A 14% holder flagging proposals on ownership structure is not a passive investor. Tether is running the same play at Versamet, so gold royalties are the target.

Accent Resources NL
A third consecutive leg on the same disclosure, taking Accent from 1.4c on 10 August to 52.5c. The company's response to the ASX price and volume query pointed to its 10 August dry magnetic separation testwork at the Magnetite Range Project, which flagged concentrate grades above 60% Fe on a fully dry flowsheet, and confirmed it holds no undisclosed information.

EcoGraf Limited
EcoGraf executed a binding term sheet with a major German graphite trader for 20,000tpa of Epanko flake graphite from production start, doubling to 40,000tpa after five years, over a ten-year term with a floor price. At the step-up that single agreement covers about 55% of Epanko's initial 73,000tpa capacity. With the existing tk accelis contract, contracted European sales now total 40,000tpa.

Firebird Metals Limited
No announcement today, with the run still tracing back to 6 August when Firebird moved into its Australian Demonstration Plant site at Osborne Park in Perth and completed all Milestone 1 deliverables under a A$2 million ARENA Battery Breakthrough grant. The plant will be the only fully integrated manganese concentrate to cathode active material facility outside China. Commissioning is targeted for the fourth quarter, first product in the first quarter of 2027.

Selling into Monday's confirmation that the Mineral Rights Agreement with PLS at the 2.1Moz Mt York project is unconditional, giving Pilbara Gold mineral rights excluding lithium and tantalum over 367sqkm of neighbouring greenstone. The ground includes a 1,500m extension to Main Hill, where drilling returned 9m at 3.92 g/t gold from 97m. A 50,000m program continues, with a further footprint expansion announced Tuesday.

Ioneer Ltd
The half-year to 30 June reported a US$4.0 million loss and US$58.8 million cash after a US$50 million raise, with Rhyolite Ridge resources and reserves unchanged. Plaintiffs have appealed the Nevada District Court ruling upholding the federal permit, with a Ninth Circuit decision expected mid-2027. Ioneer says the appeal will not delay construction, and no final investment decision has been taken.

Southern Palladium Limited
Retreating from Monday's grant of a 30-year Mining Right over the 5,280ha Bengwenyama project in Limpopo by South Africa's DMPR. Stage 2 steady state targets over 400koz of PGMs and 1 million tonnes of chrome concentrate a year, against a PFS after-tax NPV of US$857 million. The DFS has slipped a quarter to early 2027 to capture near-trebled chrome recoveries, with box-cut and decline work due to start before year end.

Bank of America Invests in Mining With $353 Billion Infrastructure Fund
The US$250 billion Critical Infrastructure Finance Initiative covers financing, investment and advisory, to be mobilised over 18 months ending 4 July 2027. Critical minerals and mining sit in the core infrastructure pillar alongside transportation, transmission, grid optimisation and water. Digital infrastructure and energy are the other two pillars, with all eight business lines supporting delivery.
|
Our Take
Mining is one line inside one of three pillars, so the actual allocation is unstated. The signal is that critical minerals now qualify as infrastructure.

Backlash Over Australian Plan to Mine Rare Earths Near Brazilian Homes
City councillors from Pocos de Caldas in Minas Gerais have written to ASX-listed Viridis Mining seeking design changes to its US$286 million Colossus project, arguing it sits too close to homes, preschools and hospitals. The project would extract rare earths from soils on the edge of town, using Australian taxpayer funding.
|
Our Take
Australian public money now carries social licence risk offshore. The rare earths sit in soil at the town's edge, so moving the pit is not a redesign.

Tanzania Assures Stronger Economic Growth as Strategic Investments Rise
Finance Minister Khamis Mussa Omar told Fitch Ratings the economy grew 5.9% last year, up from 5% in 2024, and should reach 6.3% this year, with mining a principal driver. He cited the Nyanzaga gold project in Mwanza at over $500 million and a niobium agreement worth about $442 million, plus planned aluminium investment in Songea and iron ore at Liganga and Dodoma.
|
Our Take
Growth guidance delivered straight to a ratings agency with mining as the headline exhibit. Nyanzaga is the test of whether the pipeline converts.

Northern Star Snubs US Activist Fund With New Board Appointment
Northern Star has appointed Jetstar's former finance chief Terry Bowen to the board, hours after Elliott named six candidates with large-scale gold operating experience across Australia, Africa and the Americas. Elliott has lifted its economic interest to 5.6% and has pressed for a strategic review since early June. Chairman Michael Chaney is running the defence.
|
Our Take
An airline CFO answers a slate built on gold operators. Chaney has picked the fight over the compromise.

Aluminium Extends Fall From Seven-Week High as Supply Fears Ease
Aluminium fell a second session after Emirates Global Aluminium confirmed it aims to restore output to pre-war levels in the first quarter of 2027. Three-month LME aluminium dropped 1.5% to $3,313 a tonne, having hit a seven-week high of $3,384.50 on Tuesday after seven straight gains. EGA's Al Taweelah smelter, shut by an Iranian strike in March, is running at 18% capacity.
|
Our Take
A restart date fifteen months out was enough to end a seven-session run. That is how thin the inventory buffer has become.
