Round 11: Saudi Arabia Turns to Australia's Explorers

The Arabian Shield is one of the world's least-explored Precambrian terranes. It sits beneath northwest and central Saudi Arabia and carries a mineral endowment the Kingdom's own Ministry values at $2.5 trillion USD, spanning gold, copper, silver, zinc, and nickel. Under Vision 2030, Riyadh has positioned mining as the third pillar of its industrial economy and has been running successive competitive licensing rounds to open that ground to global capital.

Australian companies are already in the room. Resource Minerals International, Metal Bank Limited, Sierra Nevada Gold, and Hancock Prospecting have all secured licences in earlier rounds. Saudi Arabia has noted the depth of exploration capability sitting inside the ASX junior sector, and Round 11 is the next tranche of blocks on offer across the Shield. The Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources is now directly targeting Australia.

On 21 May, the Ministry is hosting a one-hour virtual briefing exclusively for Australian mining companies. The session will cover the Round 11 opportunity, the Kingdom's competitive incentive package, and how the licensing process works. If frontier ground in a politically stable, well-capitalised jurisdiction is on your radar, this is the session to be on.
