Lead Insight Department of Energy Announces American Nuclear Supply Chain Loans The US Department of Energy issued a US$17.5 billion conditional loan commitment to rebuild America's commercial nuclear supply chain and accelerate the deployment of 10 large-scale reactors by up to three years. The funding backs five projects, each pairing Westinghouse with a utility partner to procure long-lead items for two AP1000 reactors, with both committing US$500 million in equity upfront.
Our Take Conditional and equity-gated, but the long-lead procurement structure turns policy into purchase orders. The signal runs down the fuel cycle, a demand tailwind for uranium, conversion and enrichment names.

Today's Stories
Mining.com USA Rare Earth Rebuts MP Materials Lawsuit as Rivalry Deepens USA Rare Earth rebutted a lawsuit from MP Materials, which accused the company of a corporate raiding campaign that poached several MP employees. The dispute escalates competition between the two domestic rare earths players.
Our Take A legal fight over poached employees underscores how thin the US rare earths talent pool is, a constraint that matters more than ore for building processing capacity. Investors in either name should weigh the distraction and legal cost against the reality that both will likely benefit from federal support regardless of who wins.
Bloomberg Vedanta Eyes $372 Million Raise From Zambia Copper Mines IPO Vedanta Resources plans to sell an 11.9% stake in a US-based unit to raise about $372 million to develop its Zambian copper mining complex. The proceeds are earmarked for capital spending on the operation.
Our Take Selling just 11.9% to raise $372 million lets Vedanta fund its Zambian copper buildout while keeping control, a smart structure for a debt-laden parent chasing copper exposure. The US listing venue suggests management is positioning the unit for a richer valuation than Zambian assets typically command.
The Northern Miner US Sanctions Shut Canada's Only Cobalt Refinery US sanctions forced the shutdown of Canada's only cobalt refinery, operated by a Toronto-based nickel and cobalt producer. The company said the closure follows earlier guidance that refinery operations would run only until mid-June.
Our Take Losing the sole Canadian cobalt refinery to US sanctions strips North America of domestic processing capacity at the exact moment Western governments are funding supply chain reshoring. The closure hands more pricing and processing leverage to non-Western refiners and creates an opening for any player willing to fill the gap.
Financial Post Indonesia Orders Miners to Provide More Coal Amid Blackouts Indonesia's energy ministry directed miners to urgently boost domestic coal supplies just before the country was hit by rolling blackouts. The order prioritizes domestic power needs over export volumes.
Our Take Diverting coal to domestic power amid blackouts means Indonesian exporters face tighter domestic market obligations that could squeeze seaborne supply. Thermal coal buyers in Asia should watch for export volume cuts from the world's largest shipper translating into price support.
Bloomberg Mining Billionaire Calls on China to Push Green Ship Fuel Deal A mining billionaire is urging China to push for decarbonizing global shipping fuel after plans to charge emissions fees stalled last year due to US opposition. The intervention seeks to revive a stalled international shipping emissions framework.
Our Take A push to revive shipping emissions fees, stalled by US opposition, would create new demand for green fuels like ammonia and hydrogen that bulk miners ship at scale. Producers should track whether China backs the framework, as it would reshape freight costs across the commodity supply chain.
