Boliden Expects Hit To Q1 Earnings From Seismic Activity At Mine

Swedish miner Boliden has warned that abnormally high seismic activity at its Garpenberg zinc and copper mine earlier this month will reduce Q1 2026 EBITDA by approximately 400 million Swedish crowns ($43 million). Throughput for the quarter came in just under 0.8 million tonnes against an expectation of over 0.9 million tonnes, and production in the most affected part of the mine is not expected to resume this year. Until further notice, Garpenberg will operate at around 30% of its guided annual capacity of 3.7 million tonnes while ventilation, pressure air, and electrical infrastructure is repaired over the coming weeks.
